Cafe Konvertible

artesanos, tecnicos y productores.IMAGE
Cafe
Konvertible is a collaborative art project by Konvertible (visual
artist Lisa Cheung and designer Sammy Delgado Escobar) for Somerset
Arts Weeks 2012. Konvertible takes the form of a collective
brainstorm, inviting participants from all walks of life to share
their time, skills and creativity to produce unique design objects
from everyday materials. All the objects produced are unique
and affordable, but still made by local people and local talent.
The theme of this edition of Konvertible was "Cafe Life"
and was showcased in a vintage VW caravan that toured around
Somerset, UK. The process of Konvertible is characterised by
collective creativity and production. Konvertible invites
participants to "brainstorm" where they can
experiment with materials and exchange ideas and techniques with
other participants. The workshops are varied and focus on a
particular skill or technique. Some workshop are open to all,
while others are more focused enlisting participants with particular
skills and knowledge. However, all workshops encourage exchange
and learning amongst participants. The materials/results
produced during one workshop are then passed onto the next workshop
to be continued to be worked on and elaborated on (i.e. fabric
printed during the printing workshop is then worked on by
participants in the textile workshop to make handbags, tablecloths,
etc.). Therefore, the products of each edition of Konvertible
are unique to each locale's participants and a result of a collective
production.IMAGE
